Events 350 – 395
The following guidelines and reminders are specific to this Division. Please also read the Information for Entrants & Rules and General Conditions.
1. Performances are for soloists unless an event indicates otherwise.2. A person may only perform ONCE in the SAME event.3. A different item is required for each event unless repeat performances are specifically allowed. If it is specifically indicated that an item may be repeated, it may be repeated ONLY ONCE (except when progressing to finals).4. Tests allow for presentation of more than one item (unless otherwise indicated), provided they fit within the nominated time limits. Time Limits are strictly monitored and entrants exceeding the time will be eligible for 'comments only' - not for any placing.5. Registration and performance rules are strictly enforced (see Nos 15 & 16 in the Rules & General Conditions of Entry).6. Unless an event is ‘Any Age’, entrants must conform to event age limits. Random age checks will be made and entrants must carry a photocopy of their birth certificate or school ID with their date of birth.7. Entrants perform at their own risk. Entrants agree they are of good health and fitness and physically able to participate in an event. No liability will be accepted for any injury sustained whilst carrying out that performance.8. In case of insufficient entries in any event they may be combined with similar events.9. Performances must be spoken in English.10. No prompting allowed, unless deemed necessary by the adjudicator, in which case marks will be deducted and the entrant will not be considered for any major placing.11. All items to be performed from memory. Cuts to the original text may be made.12. A copy of the work to be performed, acknowledging the author's name, must be provided for the adjudicator. Photocopies will not be returned.13. Entrants must themselves announce clearly the title of their performance item(s). The Session Manager is not required to make this announcement.GROUPS:14. TWO OR MORE GROUPS IN THE SAME EVENT: Schools can enter more than one group in the same event provided each group has different members. Schools, which enter more than one group in the same event, must supply a list of names in each group WHEN THEY REGISTER on the day of the performance, otherwise only the first group programmed may be eligible for a prize.15. A separate entry form stating the name of BOTH entrants must be completed for duos and a GROUP NAME must be given for THREE or more in an event.16. Schools with students of the wrong age in age specified events will be disqualified and barred from participation in 2013.
Dramatic Scene: Facilities will be available for CD replay of sound effects, etc. Minimal setting and props are advised. No scenery. Use of House Curtains not permitted.
EQUIPMENT PROVIDED BY SYDNEY EISTEDDFOD:
Solos: A small table and a chair will be provided. Groups: A trestle and card table with 4 standard (stackable style) chairs will be provided.
A copy of the work to be performed, acknowledging the author's name, must be provided for the adjudicator.
SOLOS - 16 & OVER
Note: A person is only permitted to perform ONCE in an event.

356: Shakespeare Event - In Rehearsal Blacks (14-16 Years) - only if aged 16 yrs
Test: A memorised solo performance of at least three items, which must include drama and verse and prose. These test items may be repeated ONCE in other events. In this Championship there are no restrictions on use of costume for any item. It is up to the choice of the performer. Please be aware of the time limit. Time limit minimum 8 and maximum 12 minutes (to include introductions and linking dialogue totalling approximately 1 minute).

*James Brunton-Gibb, an examiner for the AMEB and a well-known adjudicator, (born 1897) taught at The Scots College, PLC Croydon, and other schools. He was an Honours Licentiate for Speech & Drama of Trinity College and an active member of the Sydney Savage Club from 1935 until his death in 1968.

*Clifford and Dulcie Lenton, both long time presidents of the Speech and Drama Association of NSW, were eminent practitioners in speech and drama and communication. Clifford specialised in business management and Dulcie was a well-loved and highly respected teacher, examiner and adjudicator. Their contributions to the field were immeasurable.

PUBLIC SPEAKING
Prepared Speech: No copy required for the adjudicator. Cue cards can be used by entrants as a memory jog. Not to be used to read from.
Impromptu Speech: A topic, provided by the adjudicator, will be given to each entrant in the preparation room. Entrants are not allowed to take material of any kind into this room, including mobile phones and other electronic devises. Paper & pen will be provided for notes.
