Events 400 - 528

The following guidelines and reminders are specific to this Division. Please also read the Information for Entrants & Rules and General Conditions.

1. Performances are for soloists unless an event indicates otherwise.
2. A person may only perform ONCE in the SAME event.
3. A different item is required for each event unless repeat performances are specifically allowed. If it is specifically indicated that an item may be repeated, it may be repeated ONLY ONCE (except when progressing to finals).

5. Registration and performance rules are strictly enforced (see Nos 15 & 16 in the Rules & General Conditions of Entry).
6. Unless an event is ‘Any Age’, entrants must conform to event age limits. Random age checks will be made and entrants must carry a photocopy of their birth certificate or school ID with their date of birth.
7. Entrants perform at their own risk. Entrants agree they are of good health and fitness and physically able to participate in an event. No liability will be accepted for any injury sustained whilst carrying out that performance.

9. Short tutu must be worn by girls in all solo classical dances except in Event 400: McDonald's Ballet Scholarships.

14 & UNDER

The following guidelines and reminders are specific to this Division. Please also read the Information for Entrants & Rules and General Conditions.

1. Performances are for soloists unless an event indicates otherwise.
2. A person may only perform ONCE in the SAME event.
3. A different item is required for each event unless repeat performances are specifically allowed. If it is specifically indicated that an item may be repeated, it may be repeated ONLY ONCE (except when progressing to finals).
4. One item only is to be performed within the time limit, except in scholarships and championships as indicated. Time limits are strictly monitored and entrants exceeding the time limit will be eligible for 'comments only' - not for any placing.
8. In case of insufficient entries in any event they may be combined with similar events.
9. Short tutu must be worn by girls in all solo classical dances except in Event 400: McDonald's Ballet Scholarships.
10. No tarkett floor provided for world dance, tap, song & dance or musical theatre, except in School Dance Events 523-528. Hip Hop events may be with or without tarkett.
11. No parents OR teachers allowed backstage except for ONE nominated supervisor for group events.
12. Finals: In solo events with 35 or more entries, 'finals if required' will be scheduled as close to the heat(s) as possible. If fewer than 35 actually perform, or if the adjudicator decides the finals will not be required, the result will be announced. Finalists to repeat their item(s) from the heats, unless otherwise indicated.

GROUPS:
13. TWO OR MORE GROUPS IN THE SAME EVENT: Schools can enter more than one group in the same event provided each group has different members. Schools which enter more than one group in the same event must supply a list of names in each group WHEN THEY REGISTER on the day of the performance, otherwise only the first group programmed may qualify for a prize.
14. A separate entry form stating the name of BOTH entrants must be completed for duos. For events 478-487 please read the requirements for names listing under the sub-heading for those events. A GROUP NAME must be completed for events listed for 4-9 Dancers and 10-30 Dancers.
15. Schools with students of the wrong age in age specified events will be disqualified and barred from participation in 2013.
16. There is no backstage crossover at the Science Theatre or the Concert Hall and, in the interests of safety, dance choreography must allow (once dancers are positioned either side) for entry and exit from the same side. Under-stage access at the Science Theatre is only to be used at the start of the performance. Dancers may be penalised if found running under-stage or behind the stage to gain access to the other side during performance at any of the venues.

18. RECORDING OF CD:
* If the CD is prepared on a home computer, ensure it is finalised properly, and plays through a normal audio system. Please don’t use RW-CDs (ReWriteable). These are meant for computers and are sometimes not recognised in sensitive replay equipment. Sydney Eisteddfod cannot be responsible for backing CDs, which do not play through the venue’s professional sound system.
* A separate CD for each event is required, submitted in a Double CD case - see below. Only the ONE TRACK RELEVANT to the event should be on the CD. You are also requested to submit a BACK-UP CD (in a DOUBLE CD case - one case which takes two CDs), when you register. Sydney Eisteddfod takes no responsibility for CD error. If the CD should fail during your performance you will be permitted to leave the stage while the backup is programmed and start again without penalty. Please wait for the Session Manager's instructions.
* Your Event number and Entrant number must be clearly written on the CD using an appropriate pen. These details must be clearly visible through its protective case. Do NOT use labels as this may cause CD failure.

19. The CD must be handed to the Session Manager when registering at least 15 minutes before the start of the session or event EST time.
20. No person, unless authorised, may sit with the sound operator.
21. Vocals optional on backing CD unless otherwise excluded (e.g. Song & Dance, etc.)

12 & UNDER

MUSIC:
17. The music and choreography from the traditional/professional classical repertoire (or modifications to the choreography) are not to be used except in Event 400: McDonald's Ballet Scholarships.

GROUPS: 10 - 30 DANCERS

Note: A person is only permitted to perform ONCE in an event.

See also 497S: DANCE OF CHAMPIONS - $28,000

MUSIC:
17. The music and choreography from the traditional/professional classical repertoire (or modifications to the choreography) are not to be used except in Event 400: McDonald's Ballet Scholarships.

SCENERY, PROPS & COSTUMES:
22. Entrants will be penalised with marks deducted or disqualified if the following are not adhered to:
* Entrants, particularly in the Demi-Character events, are requested to note that NO FREE STANDING SCENERY ALLOWED. Simple hand-held props (basket, scarf, doll, flowers, etc) are permitted only if actually used in the routine. Each entrant is responsible for placing and removing their items on stage. Parents or teachers are not allowed to assist with this set-up.
* No prop to be used which needs assembly on site. Props must be easily carried backstage by the entrant themselves WITHOUT ANY ASSISTANCE.
* At no time on stage are performers allowed to use fire or to have sharp implements or props with sharp edges or any live animals or any props of polystyrene component.
* Props of a height of 1 metre or more that will be performed on in any manner (e.g. for standing, walking, etc) MUST include a hand-rail. This is a safety requirement. All such props must not exceed a height of 1.7 metres.
* There must be no debris, residue or substance from an entrant's performance or costume requiring the stage to be cleaned and causing delay to the session. Penalty applies. No liquids, rosin, soap bubbles or excessive body talc should be used and the surface of the stage must not be coated.

23. The use of house curtains is not allowed unless authorised by Sydney Eisteddfod Officials in special cases.
24. PROPRIETY: Make-up, costumes and choreography should be suitable to the age of the dancers and sexually explicit actions avoided.
25. DRESSING ROOM: Dressing Room facilities are very limited at the Science Theatre. Entrants are therefore requested to come as pre-prepared as possible (especially make-up). Thank you for your cooperation.
