WHO WE ARE

Sydney Eisteddfod presents the annual McDonald’s Sydney Eisteddfod with the help of arts and education professionals. An independent community based organisation, Sydney Eisteddfod is a non-profit company limited by guarantee. As a registered charity in NSW, it is listed on the federal Register of Cultural Organisations eligible to receive tax-deductible donations.

Sydney Eisteddfod operates with a full time staff of six and relies on the generosity and support it receives from the corporate sector, private citizens and dedicated volunteers to bring the program to life. McDonald’s Australia has been Principal Sponsor of Sydney Eisteddfod since 1988.

WHY WE DO IT

Performing before an audience is confidence building and, as every entrant receives constructive criticism from an expert adjudicator, most improve their skills. Whether a person sings, dances, acts, recites, plays an instrument, composes music or writes poetry or prose, Sydney Eisteddfod provides them with an opportunity to meet people with similar interests and compare performances. Many take part for enjoyment, while aspiring professionals compete for cash prizes and scholarships to fund further study. Whether our entrants compete for financial reward or purely for fun, everyone learns and most enjoy the experience.

Educationally significant

McDonald’s Sydney Eisteddfod promotes interest in the arts, so whether our entrants ultimately appear on stage, backstage or become a part of that essential group known as an ‘audience,’ the exposure they receive on our stages enriches their lives. Schools consider taking part in Sydney Eisteddfod a valuable educational and social exercise in student development.
